Until now Touareg might have only reminded you of a slightly compromised German car brand, instead of the blue veiled nomads who’ve been crossing the Sahara desert for thousands of years. Their bloody struggle for independence infused Anana Haroun’s childhood with an unhealthy dose of violence. The young man quickly realized the guitar may prove to be a stronger weapon than the gun. Much like their more famous pals Tinariwen, the musicians of Kel Assouf master the traditional Touareg instruments as well as more modern ones like the electric guitar. On their latest album Tikounen the lads seem to be gradually replacing their mesmerizing desert sound with solid rock tracks. A must-see show!
